Mustafa Kemal Secondary School, inspired by the Second National Architecture movement and designed with 28 classrooms in the original blueprint, was completed in 1947 and opened in the same year as Elazığ High School. In the following years, the name of the building was changed to Atatürk Primary School and finally to Mustafa Kemal Secondary School.
Mustafa Kemal Secondary School has a capacity of 1,605 students in 26 classrooms on an area of 14,942.09 square meters. It features a workshop, science laboratory, painting class, conference hall, library, two IT classrooms and a sports hall, a basement, a ground floor and two above-ground floors.
As per the decision of the Diyarbakır Cultural Heritage Preservation Regional Board, the registered building, which was severely damaged in the earthquake that occurred on January 24, 2020 in Sivrice, Elazığ, was to be rebuilt once the original was destroyed and the building survey, restitution and reconstruction projects were prepared. As a part of our social responsibility project, construction of the building has commenced with the approvals obtained from the boards and the works are continuing to ensure that the reopening target, the academic year of 2021–2022, is met.
